This list is not exhaustive and is AVERAGE which means a middle number taken from the breeds, and will be listed by pressure not breed: # Hyena - 800 lb per square inch # Mastiff (all true Mastiff breeds) 500 lb per square inch # Pit Bull, German Shepard, Rottweiler and all other large domestic breeds of dogs - 320 lb per square inch Some information in this answer was taken from: Dr. Brady Barr's study "Bite Force (Dangerous Encounters)" produced for National Geographic.
Here is a list of Dog Breeds with some of the strongest jaw pressures: American Pit Bull Terrier, Rottweiler, German Shepherd, and Husky. These breeds are known to have powerful bites that can exert pressures ranging from 235 to 328 pounds per square inch.
English bulldogs have an average bite pressure of around 235 pounds per square inch (psi). This is considered low compared to other dog breeds due to their brachycephalic skull shape affecting their jaw strength.
No, no dog does. There is no "locking mechanism" in any dog. Ever.
No. Dog bite strength is proportional to the size of the dog. There are dog breeds larger than pit bulls. Therefore, there are dogs with stronger bites than pit bulls.
No dog has a locking jaw. Their jaw may be powerful but NO breed can lock it's jaw. (Not even a pit bull or other bully breed)
no dog has a looking jaw
365 psu
Some candidates for the title of "breed with the greatest bite force" include the Rottweiler, The Mastiff, the Kangal, and the Hungarian Kuvasz. It is not easy to measure the exact, maximum jaw pressure of these animals.
The dog that has the strongest jaw pressure is the Rottweiler(306 pounds per square)
the staffy has more jaw pressure as they are one of the few breeds that have lock jaw; as soon as it bites down on something its jaw 'locks' and it takes a lot of effort to open it up again think of a crocodile...they have lock jaw too Lock jaw is a myth! The truth is no one knows the answer to this question, as these two dogs would have to be tested. The so called "lock jaw breeds" do not necessary have the strongest bite. In a test between a Rottweiler, German Shepard and a American Pit bull, the Rottweiller actually had the strongest bite and the American pit bull had the weakest. Going by this, the husky is a big powerful dog, so i would be inclined to say the Husky would probably have the strongest bite.

When you test a dog jaw strengh, the dog doesn't bite as hard as it could. When a pitbull hangs by it's jaw, you can't record the preasure because the mouse is closed. Jaw bite pressure tests couldn't bring accuratte results.

Hi there, I own an American Staffordshire Terrier, very powerful dog including the jaw. My best friend owns a boxer and we had this exact discussion between ourselves about 2 years ago. We exhausted every avenue of "lock-jaw". Read every thing we could find about lock jaw and asked numerous Vets. They all had the same answer......No dog on this earth has "lock-jaw". The only case of a dog having lock-jaw was a dog with tetanus lock-jaw, it is very rare that a dog gets this type of disease , that is the only type of lock-jaw a dog may get. It's a medical condition , nothing to do with the actual "lock-jaw" I hope this answered your question...there is no such thing as a dog with "lock-jaw". Its a myth. Check out this site, its the one we found to be most creditable and he confirmed the "lock-jaw" myth http://pitstopnc.tripod.com/id2.html
The term "lockjaw" is a myth associated with pitbulls and other dog breeds. All dogs have the same basic jaw structure and none have the ability to lock their jaws in place deliberately. It is important to understand that a pitbull's jaw is like any other dog's jaw in terms of function.
There is no known proof that pit bulls can bite harder than other breeds of dog. Dogs bite harder or less hard depending on what situation they are in, so it is very difficult to run tests to determine bite strength. It is a natural assumption that larger dog breeds with bigger jaws have stronger bites. That would mean there are numerous dog breeds that can bite harder than pit bulls.
It has been said that a Rottweiler dog's bite pressure now can exceed 2000 pounds per square inch. Years ago the Pit bull was clocked in as to have a bite pressure of 1500 psi and up. The advantage of being bit by a Rottweiler is that this breed of dog's jaw does not lock like the Pitbull's has been know to. I am not a veternarian, nor an expert. Just an individual who has animal experience and does her research before purchasing a dog as a family pet.
