Atlanta Ga...I just received an estimate of 4 labor hours to remove the intake manifold of a 1996 E300D
around 6-7 hours according to AllData
Intake manifold or exhaust? The complete job (parts and labor) is between $700-$900. depending on labor rates.
The labor charge to replace and intake manifold gasket, on a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe, is approximately $180. It takes approximately 2 1/2 hours to replace the gasket.
I live in KY. And the going labor rate on that job is 250.00 to 300.00 dollars to replace the intake manifold gasket.I charge 250.00 $ when I do them at the shop.
The sensor is located under the intake manifold. It takes about 2 and half hours to replace the intake manifold, book time. Knock sensor is about $35 + $60-$90/hr labor. So you are talking about $300.
To be fair: about 4 hours. I charge $240.00 labor to do that job.
Its too much work. You will need to remove: the throttle cable and sensor tree bracket nearby coils behind the rear head and the coil bracket (7/32 long socket) egr valve alternator upper intake manifold fuel rail power steering pump (requires fuel rail removal first, unless you can get the pulley off) intake rods (don't mix 'em up) intake manifold gasket intake manifold You should now be able to see the cylinder heads! It should unbolt fairly easy at that point. You will need an entire engine gasket set. You will need a torque wrench and proper specs to retorque the heads, rods, and intake manifold. Use locktite blue on the intake bolts!! Be sure the replacement intake manifold gasket is metal. Expect 15 hours labor for hack mechanic. 9 hours for a person who has rebuilt at least one motor's top end. 4-6 hours professional labor.
It should take about an hour to change the intake manifold gasket. This part can be replaced by taking off the intake manifold cover, cleaning the old gasket off and sealing a new gasket in the space and tightening the bolts. When other things are in the way, like the alternator, it will take longer.
Try this for starters: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YgikQ8s6Va0 And then this: New Intake Manifold Runner Control Actuator (b99) = $72.47 +tax @ dealer. New Intake Manifold Runner Control (b999) = $127.00 +tax @ dealer. Dealer tech Labor = $450 +tax Good Luck
5 hours labor Book time. A good experenced mechanic can do it in about 3 hours.
The part you are referring to is called a "Flame Trap" - it is part of the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) system. When it fails it causes too much suction in the crankcase, usually resulting in a nasty squeal or howl at idle that goes away when you remove the oil filler cap. Replacing it requires removing the intake manifold. My dealer quoted $450.00 for the job ($100 for parts and 3 hours labor).
parts and labor should run around $650
