What is the leading cause of death for teenagers?

From 1999 to 2006 there were 131,000 deaths of teenagers 12-19

in the US. That total divided over the 7 years results in an

average of 16,375, of these nearly 1/3 were killed in accidents,

more than half of these died in alcohol related traffic crashes.

Homicide comes in at number two, but leads the stats among male

Hispanic teenagers and non-Hispanic black males. Suicide, cancer,

and heart disease round out the five leading causes of death for

teens.
