One inch (25 millimeters) is the average length of a diving beetle. The largest predaceous diving beetles within the Dytiscidae family of water beetles number among the members of the Dytiscus latissimus species native to central and northern Europe. The largest specimens will measure from 1.5 to 1.7-plus inches (38 to 44-plus centimeters) in length.
