To check the oil level, from the owner's manual: 1. Place the ATV on level ground 2. Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes 3. Stop the engine. After a few minutes, remove the oil filler cap/dipstick an wipe it clean, then reinsert the dipstick without screwing it in. The oil level should be between the upper and lower marks on the dipstick. 4. If required, add the specified oil up to the upper level mark. Do not overfill. 5. Reinstall the oil filler cap/dipstick.
The maximum level should be shown on the dipstick it is the top mark nearest to the dipstick handle. the lower mark is minimum level.
Correct, there is no one dipstick that will fit all vehicles. What you need is a dipstick that is the correct length. If you have lost yours, then go to your local salvage yard and find a car with the same engine. Ford Contour, Mercury Mystique, Ford Mondero, are all the same. Look for one with the same engine, either the 2.0 or 2.5. The dipstick from any of these will fit. Another alternative is to get any dipstick that will actually fit and be long enough. Drain your oil and change the filter. Add the correct amount of oil that is required for an oil & filter change. Start the engine and run for 1 minute. Shut the engine off, Wait one hour and check the level on the dip stick you are using. Mark the level of the oil on that stick, and use that as the full mark. This way you can make your own dipstick.
In this case, you should try to get a dipstick as this is important. In the meantime, you should contact someone who owns a similar bike as ask to measure the dipstick. Then, get a medal rod, hammer its end flat so it has similar properties as the original stick. Then you bend it at the point where it has the correct length. You measure the oil level with this gadget until you can get the genuine thing. You can also use any thin metal rod and simply put some strong tape around it at the correct length, then measure the oil level. But note these are just temporary solutions, you need a new dipstick.
If it is an automatic transmission, then it should have a dipstick to check the fluid level. Depending on the make and model, the location of this dipstick will vary. If it is a manual transmission, then the fluid level really can't be checked and it will not have a dipstick.
The length of time required for half of a sample of radioactive material to decay
For the Turbo Diesel engine, approx. 4.5 L of oil will take the fill level on the dipstick from the middle of min to just under the max fill line. Unsure whether the petrol engines differ much or not at all.
Make sure you are putting the dipstick in all the way. It could be that your oil level is so low that it is not yet showing on the dipstick.
