The average lifespan of a goldfish is about 10-15 months with improper care. Many die before that because of poor care such as overfeeding, having too small of a fish tank, not having a good enough filter, forgetting to feed them, ETC. The oldest recorded goldfish lived to be 44 years old but died in 2003.

The average lifespan of a goldfish is very flexible and questionable depending on the care provided and the environment the fish is placed. Some additional factors include whether the fish is moved from one invironment to another....can it survive the change? The typical goldfish lives anywhere between 5 days and 25 years.
Fancy goldfish can reach over 15 years of age, while common goldfish can reach 20-25 years with proper care.

It depends on what kind of goldfish you have - some last longer. It can also depend on it's company, or lack of it, the size of the tank, and the cleanliness of the tank. But generally tank goldfish live for 2-3 years. If you have a pond goldfish they can live as long as five years.
hi, im a marine biologist and i get this question alot. People say goldfish only live for a couple of years. In actual fact, healthy goldfish should live for 10 years or over. goldfish should NOT under any circumstance be kept in a bowl. They need to be kept in a large tank (10 gallons for each fish) with a working filter, alive plants, hiding places (pots) and PH tested water. If you are using tap water, make sure it has been treated so there are no harsh chemicals in it. Goldfish are delicate so check them for diseases every now and then.
the oldest recorded goldfish is 40 years old to make your goldfish live this long it needs to be treated with care buy a goldfish book to find out more or visit websites or your local pet store

OK- Really? Most people don't treat their pet fish that well to live 40 years! If you're buying a gold fish for a younger child they may not feed it every time their supposed to or clean it's tank every 3-4 days! But usually a fairly well kept goldfish can live 3-5 years. And they prefer another goldfish to be with them in their tank.

That's true, the goldfish that lived to be 40 is a very special case. If you take good care of your goldfish it could live for a couple of years, however, you need to clean its tank very often. Goldfish have a tendency to poop so much that they poison themselves, so you need to be very vigilant about tank maintenance. If you want a fish that will live longer and have a lower risk of dying, get a betta.
Goldfish have a long life if they are well taken care of as well as Tropical fish.

I have 2 goldfish in a 29gal tank which where geared for food fish. I have them in their tank since 1999 I also have tropical fish in a 55 gal tank which are 12 years old. The all eat twice a day. Goldfish tanks must be cleaned out often

A goldfish kept in a bowl will live for about three months. A two goldfish kept in at least a 10 gallon tank with a heater, gravel, light, plants, decor, healthy food, filter, and thermometer can live up to 25 years!

Goldfish may live more than 100 years but that is not common (the world record is 44 years), but most household goldfish generally live only six to eight years, due to the fact that they are being kept in captivity. They will live less than that if kept in bad or stressful conditions like bowls and dirty water.

The oldest recorded goldfish lived to 49 years, but most household goldfish generally live only six to eight years, due to being kept in bowls.

Kept in tanks, they can live up to 20 years, but with really good care, filteration, cleaning, proper feeding amount, and the right tank mates (or none).

example: never put 2 male bettas together! They will fight.

How many year did goldfish live?

The lifespan of a goldfish is determined by the care and maintenance of the goldfish and goldfish's home , whether or not it is getting essential nutrients and is fed a proper diet, and if the genetics of the goldfish are good. Also a factor that can determine the lifespan of a goldfish is whether the goldfish's owner did much needed research about the goldfish before purchasing one - or if they choose to remain ignorant about goldfish and their needs. If a goldfish is taken good care of through-out its life- and is not constantly, if not ever, subjected to stressful situations- other than the time it is acquired and introduced to its home (remember to always quarantine for at least 30 days before doing this) you can expect the fish to live up to +20 years- maybe even longer.

Life expectancy for fish on goldfish?

If you buy a feeder goldfish, usually their lifespan isn't that long, because they are eaten by another pet animal soon anyway. However, I doubt that their lifespan will not be so different from a normal goldfishs' if you take care of them properly-just like a normal goldfish. It is just that they are normally sold in such crowded spaces that I think they are more prone to disease.

What is the best pH level for goldfish?

A good pH range for goldfish is 7.2 to 7.6 If it is higher than this, it will shorten your goldfish's lifespan dramatically, and can irritate his slime coat, which is how they fight off diseases. Also ammonia thrives in harder water, so they can get gill burn, and other nasty things that kill them.

Goldfish do not have a long lifespan. Fish, like other animals, can develop illnesses. If you have made no sudden changes to your fish's habitat, chances are high that it is ill or injured.

How can you tell a goldfish lifespan?

A goldfish's lifepan varies a lot. It can go from 5 years to 25. The record is 43 years, I think. And it all depends on how well you take care of him, the size of the aquarium, and the water. In smaler and heated aquaria, it is quite possible to have him reach 10 years.

Is three goldfish in a bowl too much ones only a baby?

Three in a bowl? To live its full lifespan a goldfish needs ten gallons, so if you want three, you need to have a 30 gallon tank. Or 3 individual 10 gallon tanks. Otherwise they will live a month, maybe.
