Detroit has no light rail system per-se. The last streetcar true streetcar to run in the city of Detroit finished operation in 1956. The city of Detroit has a downtown circulator called the People Mover, however, it is not technically a light rail line. In operates with linear induction motors, and experimental technology of the 1980s that has found success in Vancouver, BC and recently at the New York City JFK airport. The people mover operates on elevated track in a one-way loop around the downtown area, with a total length of 2.8 miles. The city of Detroit is currently studying a light rail system that would operate on 3 major roads that radiate from the city's downtown, Woodward, Gratiot and Michigan Avenue.
The Luas is the light rail system in Dublin, so the Luas trams go on rail lines, which are electrified.
Metro rail is a rapid transit system for metropolitan areas which can include subway systems, elevated rail systems, or light rail transit systems as part of its infrastructure. MetroRail is also the name given to the metro system in Houston, Texas.
