Crawl under the vehicle and follow the exhaust from the engine to the rear of the vehicle. Somewhere in between you will see the coverter. It should be the first pod shaped fixture, immediately after the exhaust manifold.(approx. the size of a loaf of bread)
Yes.
Catalytic converter failure. Replace the catalytic converter.
No.No.
That converter is on the recall list. check it out.
NO!NO!
The oxygen sensor on a 1996 Pontiac Grand Am is found near the catalytic converter. It will be place on the piping which leads to the catalytic converter.
The location for the O2 sensor(s) are on the exhaust manifold in front(before catalyst, catalytic converter) for checking emissions from combustion chamber or behind (after catalyst) for analyzing emissions from the catalytic converter.
There are not two catalytic converters. Working towards the muffler from the flange, you have a RESONATOR, a CATALYTIC CONVERTER and finally a MUFFLER.
== == 1996 Corolla's have two oxygen sensors. The first sensor, is pre catalytic converter. It is located on the exhaust manifold. The second sensor is post catalytic converter.
There is one before the catalytic converter where the 4 runners meet on the exhaust manifold. And the second one is after the catalytic converter.
No, it will not run correctly and besides it is illegal to remove the converter.
Look under the car and count them.
