You mean what does it do? What it does is it locks your account until you retype your password. I can be used instead of logging out to save your work so you can get to it quickly.

If you go to Launchers menu - there is lock button, which you can use to key lock.
Theirs a button on the start menu and when it has a alert flag when you shadow over it it will say stores updates and then shuts down your computer
