hmm...this is a tough one, because each big surfing spot has a different kind of wave, whether it is tall and walled up, or top heavy with nastyyyy wipeouts, or monster tubes.
----longest wave- Cortes bank, one of the biggest and longest in the world, it goes on for miles at a time. the only longer one is the "pororoca", it is not truly a wave, but it is the incoming tide across the amazon river, it is a group of about 7 waves, that get over 10 feet high. that rarely ever comes along, but when it does, hundreds of surfers from around the world come here and catch it, it has been rumored to go on for hundreds of miles, and sometimes across the whole amazon river. the bad thing about here is if you fall off, you are alone in the amazon river...with blood thirsty piranhas...bring boats and hope the boat drivers don't lose you.
----most tubular and heavy wave: teahupoo- this place is freakin insane, on teahupoo, the waves are heavier on the top then the bottom, so getting pushed down by the lip hurts, what makes it even worse is the fact that the water in some spots is only a few feet deep, and if that's not bad enough? the floor is composed of razor sharp coral, or "razor-sharp reef".
----tallest waves: ghost trees California, waves here have been known to get up to 100 ft high.
----other tallest waves: 1. ghost trees cali. 2. jaws (peahi) 3. Cortes bank cali. 4. mavericks 5.shipsterns bluff
----strangest waves- 1. cyclops Australia- if you can make the 7 hour hike there, you will find some of the most deranged, messed up waves in the world, the waves look like giant squares with spikes sticking out, and by square, i meen square, plus all of the sharks, and it being one of the least surfed beaches in the world.
2. shipstern's bluff Australia- this beach is popular and well known, it lies in Tasmania, waves here are large and tubular, but if you look at some videos, like the one with Michael brennan, as the wave breaks, it forms a step, similar to a step on a stairs. in Michael brennans famous video, he flies down the face of the wave, and you can see this big step pop up out of nowhere, and he takes a 6 or 7 foot leap off of it, and lands on the water and keeps going.
13 inches and it was in my bath tub.
