Say there is a clothing factory in the center of the country, and they wanted to ship one hundred boxes of jackets to their neighbor, Chile. It would be pretty hard, because the only way to get it there wouls be driving or flying, which are both costly.
Also Paraguay is a very poor country for most of the same reasons, but it has a river to use to trade.
