So, what is a typical dish of Honduras? Really, there are several. There is even a popular dish whose name literally translates into "typical plate." In truth, the traditional fare of this Central American land is not so different from the food typically enjoyed in other countries, such as the United States, Great Britain, and China. The main difference is the food stuffs. Otherwise, it is easy to see that, Spanish, French, or English, the favored dishes are always hearty and filling, the kind of food that fills the soul as well as the belly.

The people of Honduras enjoy simple but flavorful fare, such as quesadillas, rice and beans, and scrumptious soups. People in the United States like meat and potatoes, people in England like steak and kidney pie - these are all the traditional dishes of each respective country. Central America is no different, no matter what area is in question.

Without a doubt, though, quesadillas are a very typical dish of Honduras. Easy to make from scratch and unquestionably filling, this food may be simple but it is also delicious. It is easy to see why this is such a well known dish. This cheesy delicacy is one of many favored national dishes, and it is generally served alongside a number of other local favorites.

For example, carne asada is hugely popular - it has even made the jump to becoming the favorite Spanish dish in other countries. Rather like its Mexican counterpart, the making of this typical dish of Honduras usually involves a party, especially when it is being made for a dinner involving friends and family. To balance the literal cheesiness of the quesadillas, carne asada is all about meat and a lot of preparation goes into making sure that it is just right. It is generally marinated in a surprisingly delicious concoction comprised of the juice from sour oranges, salt, pepper, and other spices like cilantro.

It is usually served with chismol sauce, another Honduran favorite. The name makes it sound exotic and even complicated. While the former is certainly true, making chismol is not hard at all. All it takes is some chopped tomatoes, diced onions, cilantro, lemon juice, and various other spices.

For a sweet balance to go with this savory meal, roasted plantains are often added. Plantains - sweet bananas - are generally a part of just about every typical dish of Honduras. They love them!

Quesadillas are unquestionably a favorite in this charming and exotic republic, but they are nothing like what most of us think. Authentic Honduran fare is quite a bit different than what we find in fast food restaurants. That is why so many people who visit Central America come back raving about the food and scouring cookbooks and the internet for recipes so that they can make authentic replicas of the delicacies they just enjoyed south of the border.
