The significance was to spread who the Christ is and to make known to all generations the correct way to love God. Many practices of the Old Testament were very superficial and Christ is correcting our way to have a relationship with Him, His Father, and The Holy Spirit. It is also to tell the history of mankind's salvation through the Son of God.

The main significance of the gospel is that it makes mortal men and women into immortal personalities.

The significance of the "gospel" is hat very few people know what it is! And, sadly, that includes most of, if not all, of the hundreds of denominations calling themselves "Christian."

Many don't even know what "gospel" means... which is simply: GOOD NEWS or GLAD TIDINGS!

The "gospel" or "good news" of which The Bible speaks is, simply stated: THE STORY THREAD THROUGHOUT THE BIBLE that in the English translation God calls GOOD NEWS about which all of God's inspired prophets spoke, and sang, and preached -- including Jesus Christ Himself.

That most "significant good news" about which the Bible professes is THE ADVENT OF THE FUTURE ESTABLISHMENT OF GOD'S KINGDOM [or GOVERNMENT] ON EARTH!

The tragic thing about this Good New, of course, is that it's utterly "INSIGNIFICANT" to this Satan-deceived and unbelieving world. And the crazy thing about it is that if the governments of this world were to suddenly realize the TRUTH of it [that it is totally TRUE, and that it's GOING TO HAPPEN whether anyone BELIEVES it or not]; then those governments would fight tooth-and-nail against God to prevent it from happening. This is also prophesied to occur at the time at the end of God's plan, when the King of that Kingdom is finally seen approaching earth with His army, to TAKE OVER RULERSHIP OF EARTH.

"...THEN SHALL APPEAR the SIGN OF THE SON OF MAN IN HEAVEN: and THEN SHALL ALL THE TRIBES [nations, governments] OF THE EARTH MOURN..." (Matt.24:30).

See it? The governments of the earth are not going to be HAPPY about God REMOVING THEM FROM POWER!

"...and THEY SHALL SEE THE SON OF MAN COMING IN THE CLOUDS OF HEAVEN with POWER and GLORY." (same verse)

God calls this GOOD NEWS [GOSPEL]! The OVERTHROW OF MAN'S ERRANT AND SATAN-GUIDED RULE ON EARTH! The overthrow of man's governments on earth. The prophet Daniel even preached it to King Nebuchadnezzar, anciently:

"...in the days of these [future] kings SHALL the GOD of heaven SET UP A KINGDOM, WHICH SHALL NEVER BE DESTROYED: and the Kingdom [Government] shall NOT be left to other people..."

[remember when President Bush smashed the Iraqi government, and then GAVE IT BACK TO THE PEOPLE TO REMAKE. Remember what a disaster that was? Well, God isn't going to give it back to man to rebuild it however they want to]...

"..., but IT [God's Kingdom] SHALL BREAK IN PIECES AND CONSUME ALL THESE KINGDOMS, and IT SHALL STAND FOREVER... the Great God hath MADE KNOWN TO THE KING WHAT SHALL COME TO PASS HEREAFTER: and the dream [vision, prophecy] IS CERTAIN, and THE INTERPRETATION THEREOF IS TRUE." (Dan.2:44-45)

The "significance" of God's GOOD NEWS [gospel] is that God is going to SAVE MANKIND FROM SATAN, the god of this world whom he chose to worship and obey in the beginning [redeem mankind, purchase mankind back from his froward master]... and that He is going to give His "re-born" Children A HOME TO ABIDE IN -- His own Household... His Righteous Kingdom! Just as Jesus teaches His servants to pray:

"...THY KINGDOM COME. Thy WILL BE DONE IN EARTH, as it [already] IS in heaven..." (Matt.6:10).

The "significance" of the "gospel" is that IT'S GOING TO HAPPEN WHETHER ANYONE BELIEVES IT OR NOT.

The Truly GOOD NEWS of the Bible is that MAN'S HORRID, BICKERING, SELF-SEEKING, UNCARING, FEAR-FILLED, GODLESS GOVERNMENTS ARE COMING TO AN END! It's the greatest, most phenomenal news this world can ever hear: but, alas, it doesn't believe it.

Its "significance" IS LOST on the governments and people of this deceived world. And that unbelief is what's taking this world and its blinded governments to the final battle with God:

"Behold, the Day of the LORD [the much-prophesied Day of Jesus' return] cometh... for I will gather ALL NATIONS AGAINST Jerusalem TO BATTLE... Then shall the LORD go forth, and FIGHT AGAINST THOSE NATIONS... and His feet shall stand that Day upon the Mount of Olives..." (Zech.14:1-4).

"...And the LORD SHALL BE KING OVER ALL THE EARTH: in that Day SHALL THERE BE ONE LORD, and His Name One." (verse 9)

"...unto us a SON IS GIVEN: and THE GOVERNMENT shall be UPON HIS SHOULDER... of the increase of HIS GOVERNMENT and PEACE THERE SHALL BE NO END, upon the THRONE OF DAVID, and upon HIS KINGDOM, to order it, and TO ESTABLISH IT with JUDGMENT and with JUSTICE FROM HENCEFORTH EVEN FOR EVER. The zeal of the LORD of hosts WILL PERFORM THIS." (Isa.9:6-7)

For the present time, this unbelieving, deceived world fails to see the "significance" of the "gospel" [good news] of the Bible. But that's exactly what its message is:

"...Jesus came into Galilee, PREACHING THE GOSPEL OF THE KINGDOM OF GOD, and saying, 'The time is fulfilled, and THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS AT HAND... " [Jesus had just finished defeating Satan the Devil - see verse 13; and He had just qualified to depose Satan and mankind's master. He was the qualified KING of the Kingdom about which He spoke -- it was time] "...: REPENT ye, and BELIEVE THE GOSPEL.'" (Mark 1:14-15)

But this world neither "repents" nor does it "believe God's Good News." So, its "significance" is lost in the confusion that is the false religions of this world.

The gospel is significant because it contains the only information about the life and mission of Jesus. There are actually four canonical versions of the gospel, all written anonymously and now known as the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. The earliest of these was John's Gospel, which was clearly the main source for the Gospels of Matthew and Luke, as well as indirectly for John.
