Oddly, the answer is "The Reformation" or "The Protestant Reformation" which officially started in 1517 when Martin Luther nailed his "95 Theses" to the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg, Germany. The split had a great deal to do with the Renaissance period in which it was taking place, as much conventional wisdom was being questioned during that time, but the driving motivation behind the Reformation was over theological differences. Some of it was based on fervent and growing nationalism, and over corruption in the Curia, the ecclesiastical court which assisted with the governance of the Roman Catholic church. The practice of selling "indulgences" was a major influencer in the Reformation.
there have been divisions within the catholic Christian Church from New Testament times. Such splits and deviations from the revealed truth gave rise to many of the Letters of the New Testament.
Real splits, however, occurred when the Christian Church of the East (commonly known as "Orthodox" churches - e.g. Greek; Russian etc.) split with the church of the West (which has basically come down to us today as the Roman catholic Church).
A more emphatic split (and I think that this is the one that the questioner is referring to) came to a head with the Reformation in Europe in the 16th century - although reformed ideas preceded this time in various places and times.
Basically, the Reformation did not seek to divide the Church but, as the name implies, reform it - i.e. to take it back to The Bible and remove the trappings that had accumulated over time with Roman Catholicism.

The question is ambiguous as there are no Christian 'symbols.' Perhaps you are asking about astronomical or zodiak signs in which case this question is better placed in astrology and not Christianity.

According its founder, A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami: "Krishna consciousness movement is the most important movement for the upliftment of the human society". Basically, God consciousness can be achieved with any bona fide system. Prabhupada: And there is no question of Christian God or Hindu God or Muslim God. God is one. So there should be no difference between the system. According to the time and circumstances, there may be little difference, but really if we can understand God, either through Christianity or through Hinduism or Muslim, that is our profit. Why then was the Hare Krishna movement founded? Prabhupada: "And therefore I ask the Christians that Lord Christ says that, "Thou shall not kill," why you are killing? They give some vague explanation. But actually a real Christian is as good as a real Hindu, as a real Muslim-if he follows." In other words, to give an example to people in general how to be better Christians, better Muslims, better Hindus.
As there are numerous denominations/sects in Christianity, suffice it to say that they would go from the ultra-liberal to moderate to ultra-conservative. You would need to be more specific for a better answer.
Everyone has a different opinion as to which is better.
