The chapter teaches that God Almighty has allowed christians to commit all kinds of sins such as incest, prostitution, and all the simliar sins you can think of.

If you read the chapter your mind will be baffled by the fake verses or word of God that teaches these horrendous crimes to humanity. It is an insult to human dignity whether one belives in God or not.

That shows why a lot of christians are committing these crimes, they do things word by word as described in those verses and think that it is allowed to commit such evil acts because Jesus died for bthier sins?

That is why many learned individuals elieve that such commandments are not the command of God but shows that Christianity is a corrupt religion.

Well, first off I must respond to the entry above. Christianity, like any other religion on earth, has its fair share of corruption -- but that corruption is not of God, nor is it condoned or taught in The Bible. The entry above offers no information at all with regard to the verse in question, and is simply a rambling personal opinion on religion. I am sure there are other areas of wiki for the response, but this question was more specific.

If you read the verse in question, it is quite obvious that it is in NO way teaching people to act in the ways listed by the contributor above -- it is quite the opposite and the entire chapter tells the story of God scorning a woman (that He saved in her youth) for being a prostitute and using the gifts He gave her for her own selfish reasons. He is telling her how he will punish her for her behavior. Additionally, throughout the entire bible, God's people encounter other people (in this particular chapter it is the Amorites and Hittites mentioned) who live immorally and for their own selfish desires, and God's people end up following suit...which is the point of this entire chapter, Ez. 16:6.

So, to answer the question, if you read the entire chapter (ez. 16) it starts with God telling of the unclean birth of a child - unwashed, cord not cut, etc. You have to realize that when the Old Testament was written, cleanliness was linked to holiness, or lack thereof. There were literally laws laid out on how to be holy (clean), and God said, "Be holy, for I am holy." So if a person did not observe certain rules (which are laid out in Leviticus re: clean/unclean, sacrifices etc), he was breaking rules of the time. So anyhow, this child was dirty, thus unholy.

Then the chapter goes on to say that whoever delivered this child didn't clean it and took it out to a field, for it was "abhorred" (which means detested or horrifying). It isn't clear whether the child was deformed or what, but the verse in question, #6, specifically says, "And when I passed and saw you wallowing in your blood, I said to you in your blood, 'Live!'. I said to you in your blood, 'Live!" (ez 16:6). I translate that simply to mean that God saved the child without regard for the deformity or whatever it was that caused the mother to get rid of it.

If you read the rest of the story in context it makes sense...the child is a girl, God takes pity on her and makes her clean, gives her the gifts of beauty, jewels, fine clothing etc. God makes a covenant with the girl (a promise), and she advanced to be a very beautiful woman and became royalty and a ruler.

But as she gets older she uses her beauty and jewels, gifts that God gave her, for her own selfish reasons (sex with many, many partners to advance her own position), and God punishes her for it. So in a nutshell, she forgot about her promise to Him, and went on her own self driven path of immorality, and He didn't like it.

:-) Good luck!

Answer:Ezekiel 16 is an extended prophetic metaphor. "Son of man, cause Jerusalem to know her abominations..."(v.2)

The "child" whom God caused to become a beautiful woman is a personification of all those dwelling in Jerusalem, to whom the warning was given (Yes, I swore an oath to you and entered into a covenant with you, and you became Mine," says the Lord God. - verse 8).

Her "harlotry" was unfaithfulness to God in the form of idolatry, worship of false gods, and most despicably, the human sacrifices of their own children (v. 20, 21).

Therefore, God announces their impending punishment: And I will judge you as women who break wedlock or shed blood are judged; I will bring blood upon you in fury and jealousy. (v.38) 'For thus says the Lord God: "I will deal with you as you have done, who despised the oath by breaking the covenant."(v.60)

Even so, after prophetically warning of His coming wrath and judgment, God reiterated His promise to remember them and offer them redemption: "And I will establish My covenant with you. Then you shall know that I am the Lord, that you may remember and be ashamed, and never open your mouth anymore because of your shame, when I provide you an atonement for all you have done," says the Lord God.'" (v.62, 63)

i DO AGREE SOMEWHAT WITH BOTH ANSWERS. THIS BOOK IS SPEAKING ABOUT A PROPHETIC WORD GIVEN TO EZEKIEL ABOUT GODS PEOPLE Jerusalem AND HIS DISAPPOINTMENT WITH THE PATH THAT THEY HAD CHOSEN EVEN AFTER ALL THAT HE HAD DONE FOR THEM.

Verse 2: Son of Man cause Jerusalem to know her abominations. (God is the husband we are the bride so he refers to Jerusalem as her.) Make Jerusalem aware of their immoral acts and idolatrous.

to understand the 6th verse you must understand the former verses.

He was telling Ezekiel, tell Israel about their detestable ways. On the day you (they) were born they were detestable, despised, no one cared about them. They were considered the dirt of the earth, nothing to be desired, unclean. No one had interest in Israel. On the day Israel was born or the birth of Gods chosen people they were unwanted, thrown out into the field. (6) God said i passed by and saw you kicking in your own blood, struggling, never making progress, dying and waddling in sin, i saw you and as life is in the umbilical cord, i am causing you to , Live! The scripture says "I said unto thee when thou wast in thy blood, Live! he said it twice, Live! Don't die, don't sit and waddle in your sorrows, sins, depression, low self esteem, dirt of the earth, Live! says the spirit of the Lord, Live!

As you read on in scripture you will see that God gave them everything, but instead of them honoring the Lord they committed detestable sins that caused God to have to send the prophet Ezekiel to tell the people of their sins. He said in the 15th verse, " but thou didst trust in thine own beauty" they forgot that all that they had had come from God, and trusted in themselves, committing the acts of an harlot, selling birth rights, committing spiritual adultery on the God of our salvation. They sacrificed their children to pagan Gods, they took the jewelry that was given to them by God and fashioned into graven images of pagan gods. They conducted themselves according to scripture, "to go a whoring" selling themselves. Ezekiel was not only delivering a message but it was a message of Judgement on his people for their sins. The bible says judgement must first begin in the house of God. But by the end, God being the sovereign God that he is he tells them he will remember his promises.

God said i raised you and cleaned you up, I the Lord made you renown, i gave you a name, I moved you from being detestable to being desired by everyone, and your repayment to me was to forget that when i found you, you were unclean, and undesirable. In the United States we have done some of these very things according to scripture. Many of us God has raised from nothing, cleaned us up, allowed us to lift our head out of pity and shame, and we have forgotten about him. We now feel that it is our own hands or own mind that has gotten us to the place of notoriety, not know that we too have went a whoring on the very God that loves us so much. Now our homes, cars, prestige have become our graven image. Stars on television, singers, so many things God has cleansed us from, now we have went from natural filth to spiritual abominations. Sacrificing our homes, family, our birth right into the kingdom of God for moments of earthly pleasure. As Ezekiel was a prophet to Gods chosen people, we must hear the prophetic word from the heart and mouth of God. Turn back, before our shame exposes our sins. God is sovereign and has not forgotten his covenant, but he has zero tolerance for sin. He desires vessels to continually pour out and ask for his strength and his guidance. Live, says the spirit of God, come out of sin, Live says the spirit of God, lift your head, Live beyond your shame. Allow God to deliver you again, before your nakedness of sin is exposed.

Like Isaiah, Ezekiel's message was both warning and consoling. He warns about the imminent First Destruction, which happened in his own time, and he prophesies better times in the distant future, when the Third Temple will be built.
In Ezekiel 16, the prophet compares the Israelites to a female infant whom God nurtured and who then abandoned Him, turning to promiscuity. The prophet speaks in disdainful terms when referring to those who had become besotted with idolatry. Since some of them had become almost hopelessly entrenched in their forbidden practices, only the most blatant language had any chance of waking them.

Verses 16:1-4 portray a gracious and compassionate God, who symbolically rescues Jerusalem, an abandoned infant, from near-certain death. After she grew symbolically into a beautiful woman (16:26-29), she played the harlot, making alliances with and paying tribute to Egypt, then Assyria, then Babylon. There follows an intensely pornographic depiction of Jerusalem like a harlot who invites everyone to her, refusing payment and even bribing men to come to her (16:34).
Ezekiel explains that the reason for this excessive imagery is that the people of Jerusalem not only formed military alliances when they had to do so, but worshipped many gods and even made their children walk through fire. Nevertheless, God will restore the fortunes of the people of Sodom, Samaria (representing the northern kingdom of Israel, destroyed in 722 BCE) and Jerusalem, allowing them to return to their former state.
