Oddly, no . . . in fact they can have quite different epidermal ridges.
Scales
Scales of lizard are made up of keratinized epidermal cells . Scales of fishes are of different type . most common fish scales are cycloid and ctenoid and are not keratinized . they are also coverewd by epidermis.
There are 2 mammals with scales and the armadillo is one of them. "The armor is formed by plates of dermal bone covered in relatively small, overlapping epidermal scales called "scutes", composed of bone with a covering of horn." The other one is called a Pangolin.
The term that is used is epidermal.
Basal cell carcinoma
Epidermal means pertaining to upon the surface of the skin.
The epidermal exoskeleton of the alligator consists of oblong horney scales, arranged in transverse rows; the long axes of the scales are parallel to that of the body. On the tail, except along the mid-dorsal line, and on the ventral side of the trunk and head these scales are very regular in outline and arrangement; on the sides of the head and trunk and on the legs they are much smaller and less regularly arranged, while along the mid-dorsal line of the tail, especially in its posterior half, they are elevated into tall keels that give the tail a large surface area for swimming. The first three digits of both manus (fore foot) and pes (hind foot) are armed with horny claws, which also belong to the epidermal part of the exoskeleton.
The top layer of skin is called the epidermis; epidermal is the medical term meaning pertaining to the skin's surface.
Muscle tissue is deep to epidermal tissue. Epidermal tissue is superficial to muscle tissue.
one of them is that all three 'skins' all have an outer layer, a mid layer and an inner layer. another fact (between feathers and scales) is that feathers could have evolved from scales, although this question is still up for debate between scientists.
An epidermal cell is a cell that is part of the outer layer of an organism. For example, in humans, skin cells are epidermal. Leaves on plants have epidermal layers on the top and bottom of the leaf.
The medical term for "pertaining to scales or covered with scales" is "squamous." This term is commonly used to describe certain types of epithelial cells or skin conditions characterized by scale-like appearance.
