The literary canon is the more or less agreed list of the works and authors that constitute 'serious', worthwhile literature in a given language. These are the works and authors generally studied in the universities and so on. Obviously, some scholars may study and write about 'pulp fiction' or 'comics' and so on, but this is then often regarded as sociology or social history.

The literary canon refers to a collection of works that are considered to be important and influential in a particular literary tradition or time period. These works are often seen as representative of the best of that tradition and are frequently studied and celebrated in academic settings. The canon can be subject to debate and change over time as perspectives on literature evolve.
