on t-stat housing or on intake manifoldtop of motor on t-stat housing or on intake manifoldtop of motor
I believe you want to drain the coolant, remove the top hose at the thermostat housing, remove the housing, replace the stat and gasket, reassemble fill with coolant and bleed the system.
Follow the upper radiator hose to the stat housing unit, there should be two bolts holding the housing unit to the engine, drain the coolant soit doesn't come out when you take off the hose on the stat housing. Remove the 2 bolts and the housing unit with the stat and gasket. Reverse to install, make sure area is clean before installing, peace out, max
the t-stat is located on the drivers side if engine, right near the air intake tube at front of engine compatment.remove air intake filter housing w/ tube and you will see t-stat housing w/ coolant hose goint to it.
The thermostat in a Northstar is located where the lower radiator hose enters the water pump. Drain some coolant, pull the hose, remove the themorstat housing, pull the old stat, and pop in the new stat. Reattach the housing, the rad hose and fill the surge tank to about 1" below the filler neck with 50/50 mix of coolant and distilled water.
Just follow the top radiator hose to the engine, you will see where it clamps onto a housing. The thermostat is under that housing. Make SURE ENGINE IS COLD, drain coolant then remove the two bolts that hold that housing on.
Follow the top radiator hose back to the engine. There is where the t-stat housing is. Remove the hose, remove the housing, remove the old t-stat, clean gasket surfaces install the t-stat into the housing with the spring side sticking out toward the engine, use spray adhesive to attach the gasket(DO NOT USE RTV), reinstall everything and be careful to evenly tighten the housing bolts until they are snug(DO NOT RAUNCH HARD ON THE BOLTS). Fill the cooling system with a 50/50 mix of coolant and water, and burp the system. Follow the top radiator hose back to the engine. There is where the t-stat housing is. STAT is the medical term meaning immediately.'Stat!"STAT means immediately.
The t-stat is located on the front of the engine at the top with 2 hoses coming out of the housing---one large (going to the upper radiator) and one smaller diameter going to a water control valve. Remove both hoses from the housing and check them for cracks etc. The bolts are 13mm. It is easier if you loosen the serpentine belt to make it less likely to cross thread the lower bolt. remove both bolts for the housing and lightly pry the housing away from the engine block. Remove t-stat and clean old gasket off both surfaces. If the replacement t-stat has a small hole in the top the hole goes towards the top of the engine. It is easier to use a little sealer to "hold" the t-stat in place when bolting up the housing. NOTE:If t-stat slips and is not in the groove of the cylinder head when you tighten the housing bolts you have a very very good chance of cracking the housing. If you did not loosen the belt---when you install the lower bolt--pull down on the belt to ensure you do not cross thread the bolt. Install large hose onto housing. When refilling with coolant add coolant to the bottle until the coolant comes out the housing where the smaller hose goes---then put hose on and secure. let car run with heater on hot setting and check for leaks. If car starts to overheat let car cool down and repeat filling procedure. clean off all spilled coolant---especially off belt
