In the UK, A CBT allows a rider to ride a moped up to 50 cc with a provisional licence from 16 years of age. You cannot legally ride a motorised bike under the age of 16 on public roads.

When you are 16, you can apply for a provisional moped licence. With a provisional moped licence, you are able to take Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) on a moped, after which you will be able to ride the moped on the road while displaying L Plates. Its different in all states. some states do not allow it at all, for example ny. some states welcome it. In UK it is legal if you are 16 and over, you have passed a Compulsory Basic Test, you are wearing an approved helmet, the moped is insured, taxed and (as appropriate) has a current Ministry Of Transport inspection certificate.

Compulsory Basic Taining. if you take this at the age of 16 with a provisional licence you are entitled to ride a 50cc moped on the road. but you are not allowed to take a pillion passenger, or ride on the motorway and you have to have L plates at all time on the front and rear of your scooter.
