Most Filipinos have great devotion to Mary, the mother of Christ. This devotion may be displayed in ways which are difficult for non-Filipinos to understand e.g carrying statues in processions, clothing statues in garments and lighting candles in front of images of Mary. Those who are unfamiliar with Filipino practices (which are also common in Latin America) can wrongly assume that Filipinos worship Mary. This is a misconception; Filipinos do not worship Mary.
