Its best to open emails you know who they are from and hope that its not a virus coming from one of your friends.

These are most likely a virus that will infect your computer. Secondly, if your antivirus has the capability, set it to where it will automatically scan email attachments. Beware of worms though, these things will infect your friends' computers and then send you an email making it look like it came from them when it is really a virus.

Avoid downloading music that you cannot preview, same with videos. Normally a virus will attack your system more violently if you downloaded a file and install or open it.
