Templo Mayor or Aztec Main Temple - constructed around 1428 by the Aztec civilization, it was the most important religious building of such society until Spanish conquistadors destroyed it in 1521. Nowadays it is a major archaeological site and museum.
Catedral Metropolitana de la Ciudad de Mexico or Mexico City Metropolitan Cathedral - after the conquest of Tenochtitlan in 1521, it was built in sections from 1573 until 1813; it was the most important religious building in Mexico during colonial days, taking several elements from Gothic cathedrals in Spain.
Torre Latinoamericana - completed in 1956, it was the world's first major skyscraper successfully built on highly active seismic land and until 1972, it was the tallest building in Mexico.
Torre Mayor - completed in 2003, it is the tallest building in Mexico and until 2010, the tallest in Latin America. With a height of 225 meters (740 feet) and 55 stories, it is one of the strongest buildings on Earth in terms of earthquake resistance, designed to withstand an earthquake of intensity 8.5 on the Richter scale.
