I have wanted to be a vet for most of my life. If you live in Scotland you need 5 A's in your highers, so that means an A in every subject. In England I think it is 2 A's and a B. You need Chemistry and Biology. Maths or Physics is also recommended. Some university's want a language and geography instead. Hope this helps!! :D

Most veterinarians struggle with euthanasia of a beloved pet - the owners are grieving and distraught and the vet may have been treating this animal for over a decade so he/she is mourning the loss of a friend too. This becomes particularly hard when an animal has a severe injury or illness that could be treated, but the treatment is expensive and the owners can't afford it. Because the animal is suffering, most veterinarians will offer to euthanize for humane reasons, but it is emotionally devastating because the veterinarian often knows he/she could have helped the animal if the owner could afford it.

Most vet clinics have a "Good Sam" fund to help pay for treatment in situations like this, but often there are more cases that need help than there is money to cover the treatment. Unfortunately, while veterinarians get into the profession to help animals, they also have to remember they can only help animals so long as the clinic is at least breaking even financially.

There will be multiple opinions about this, but my two cents is for clear respectful communication with owners. The veterinarian is ethically and legally required to inform the owner of the animal about what is happening to the animal, what tests the veterinarian would like to perform (including costs, benefits, risks and the reasoning for the test), what the animals' prognosis is, etc. Without the owner's informed consent, the veterinarian cannot do anything to the animal because the animal is legally classified as the owner's property.
