In first aid the most important step is calling 999 or 911 (depending on your country). When the ambulance gets there you really should tell them what has happened to your best knowledge. After you have called the ambulance decide between if they are unconscious or not.

If they are conscious treat to their injury's as well as you can. e.g. for bleeding wrap a bandage around it twice. Replace it when blood seeps through.

If they are unconscious then decide if they are breathing. If yes go to the next paragraph if they aren't go to the paragraph after that.

They are breathing. You now need to put them in the recovery position. Put their right hand up as if they were waving. Then put there left hand touching the side of the head. Now lift up their left leg with the kneecap pointing up. Gently pull the leg and the left side of them towards you so that they are on their side. Constantly check them to see if the recover of stop breathing. If they stop breathing roll them over back on their back. Go to the next paragraph

They are not breathing. check their mouth to see if the tongue has got stuck back in their mouth. if it has remove it from the back and pull it forward. Now draw an imaginary line from there nipples across and then one from the chin down. Put your left hand down and then interlock your right hand with it on top. Now kneel over them and push down 30 times. If you have not got any past first aid training then just do chest compressions until either you are to tired to continue, they regain consciousness or the ambulance arrives. If you have had previous first aid training then make a seal with your mouth over there mouth and hold their nose shut. Now do a short breath until the chest rises and repeat 1 more time. Now alternate 30 compressions with 2 breaths.

I would like to point out that this is rough guide and is probably missing some infomation. There is nothing better that you could do then do a first aid course as then you are prepared yourself!!!
