There is no "most treated animal". Veterinary practice today tends to be species specific. Vetterinarians often limit their practice to one of the following areas: Cats, companion animals, horses (equine), food animal, exotic (may include birds and / or pocket pets). The beauty of veterinary medicine as a career, is that you have the freedom and education to select whatever area holds the most interest for you.

Currently the most common species seen by small animal veterinarians in the United States is dogs, primarily for rabies vaccination.
