The Grim Reaper is a depiction of death personified in various cultures and mythologies. One of the earliest depictions is from Greek mythology, where Thanatos was the personification of death. The Grim Reaper's iconic image with a black robe and scythe was popularized in the Middle Ages as a symbol of the Black Death.
