In modern times, we sometimes refer to the ancient Egyptians as pagans, just as we call the ancient Romans and Greeks pagans, but this is not a description the ancients would have recognise. Since they believed that theirs was the one true religion, they did not believe it required a specific name.
Egyptian religious beliefs primarily dealt with what happens after death. The ankh was the Egyptian cross and was a symbol of life and death, at the same time. After an Egyptian person was deceased, the intestines would be removed from the person and the individual would be mummified. Within the tomb of the deceased, favorite food items, toys, or other favorite objects would be placed to be buried inside the coffin. The Egyptians believed that the dead would use these items in the afterlife. Usually the face of the deceased was painted on the outside of the coffin in order to designate who had died.
