Yes, the stomach of a turtle (the underneath part) is hard. It is also yellow and every turtle has slightly different markings on their underneath, which is how i tell my three pet turtles apart! Although the bottom of the turtle is hard, it can still be harmed by sharp objects and can still be felt by the turtle.

I believe this is a slightly curved shell on the bottom of a turtle (as apposed to flat) which would indicate that the turtle is a male. It is convex as apposed to concave which means it is rounded like the outside of a bowl. Concave of course would be the rounded inside of the bowl.
A turtle or tortoise's shell has two parts; the top domelike piece is called a carapace. The bottom is called a plastron.

if the bottom of the turtle is flat its a female and if its curved its a male, but if the turtles tail gets a lot longer and it becomes more curved its a male
