It was Mars 2, from the Soviet Mars Lander Program.
The Viking 1 spacecraft had the first lander which touched down on Mars on 20 July 1970. Viking 1, itself did not land.

the question doesn't make sense NEW 8/14/2012 (PurpleMouse): I think the ask-er is trying to say, "how long did it take the spaceship to land on mars?" It took a year for a rover to land, so maybe less for a spaceship.
An airplane, by definition, flies in the air, it does not fly in outer space where there is no air. So an airplane cannot fly from Earth to Mars. That requires a spaceship. With current technology, a spaceship might reach Mars in about a year. It's a long trip.
The first probe to land on Mars was called, the Hubble space craft.

The first spaceship to do a soft landing on the moon was part of the Apollo Space program. The spaceship was not manned and did not have a name. This was in 1967.
The first spaceship was the Sputnik 1, built in the USSR and launched on October 4 1957. It was unmanned and was disintegrated upon retry of the Earth's atmosphere. The first manned spaceship was the Vostok 1, also launched by the USSR in 1961, carrying the cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, the first man in space.
