one solution is to check the 2 prongs in the lighter unit..sometimes they get pushed apart and dont hold the lighter in place to heat up...push them back together and it should work fine, but dont push them in 2 far or they wont let go of the lighter once its heated up.
Do 30 push-ups before you bat!
If it does it when you push the lighter in, you probably have a shorted lighter. If it blows the fuse as soon as you install it, probably a short in the wire.
There is something else in the hole or the retaining clip is bent down causing interference.

Close the windows and cut the heater fan off so the wind doesn't blow it out. Or: for car lighter. push it in. -NO?- replace fuse. NO?- clean coils on lighter tip with knife. NO? - replace lighter. No? replace lighter socket. NO? Sell the car.
First of all check the fuses. Second; replace the push in lighter element and knob (one piece) and not very expensive.

You simply pull the lighter holder out and detach the wiring. To put in the new one, attach the wires and push the holder back in.
