The Gulf of California also known as the Sea of Cortez is the body of water that separates Baja California ending at the Baja Peninsula where it joins the Pacific Ocean.
There is no such place. Maybe your are referring to "Baja" which is the common name given to the Baja California Peninsula, where cities such as Tijuana, Ensenada and Los Cabos are located. If this is the case, it is the large but slim peninsula protruding from southern California along western Mexico, separated from the mainland by the Gulf of California.
The water between the mainland of Australia and Tasmania is called Bass Strait.
Cabos is a Spanish word meaning "ends". Interestingly Cabos is also the name of a free file sharing network based on LimeWire's source code. In context Cabos can also mean Cape, as in Cabo San Lucas = Cape St. Luke.
