Does the second cranial nerve transmit nerve impulses from the retina to the brain?

The second cranial nerve is the optic nerve, which tells the brain what the eye is seeing

Cranial nerves part of what nervous system?

PNS means peripheral nervous system. CNS means central nervous system.

What is the definition of optic nerve?

Each of the second pair of cranial nerves, transmitting impulses to the brain from the retina at the back of the eye.

Which nerve transmits impulses generated by the retina to the brain?

Second cranial nerve: The second cranial nerve is the optic nerve, the nerve that connects the eye to the brain and carries the impulses formed by the retina -- the nerve layer that lines the back of the eye, senses light and creates the impulses -- to the brain which interprets them as images. The cranial nerves emerge from or enter the skull (the cranium), as opposed to the spinal nerves which emerge from the vertebral column. There are twelve cranial nerves. In terms of its embryonic development, the optic nerve is a part of the central nervous system (CNS) rather than a peripheral nerve.

What is the difference between the auditory nerve and optic nerve?

Auditory nerve is eighth cranial nerve. It is called as vestibulocochlear nerve. It is the nerve to meant for hearing and balancing your body. The optic nerve is second cranial nerve. It carries sensory signals from your eye to the brain. It arises from the retina of the eye.

What is the Cranial nerve II called?

The second cranial nerve is the optic nerve.

What nerve carries signals from the from the retina to the brain?

Occipital nerve. It is the second cranial nerve.

What is cranial nerve 2?

Olfatory is the CN 1, Optic nerve is the Second.

What cranial nerve allow you to tract with eye?

Optic nerve is the nerve which carries signal from Retina to brain. This is second cranial nerve.(First being Olfactory coming from nose.)It enters the brain through For-amen called Optic For-amen.Actually this nerve is extension of the brain tissue inside the eye.You have two parts of visual fields in retina. Temporal or outer and Nasal or medial. After optic nerve enters the brain, temporal fibers go on to the same side of Visual area situated at Occipital lobe. The fibers coming from Nasal side cross to apposite side of brain. This crossing is done at optic chiasma.there are other three nerves supply to outer eye muscles. The third cranial nerve called as Oculomotor supply to 4 eye muscles. The muscles are superior rectos, inferior rectos, medial rectos and inferior oblique.Forth cranial nerve called as Trochlear nerve supply to superior oblique muscle.Sixth cranial Abducent nerve supply to lateral rectos muscle.

On a 10 second very steep hill bicycle which energy pathway does your body use?

By Anaerobic pathway of glucose break down.(Glycolysis.)

What is the optic nerve?

I don't know but you are getting on my nerves! Well I do know. The optic nerve is the second cranial nerve and carries information from the eyes into the brain. It does not have any control over the movement of the eyes as this comes from other nerves it only takes special sensory information on the images that the retina is receiving back to the brain to be processed. The optic nerve contains approximately 1.2 million neurons.
