Families of the name of Hynes may be of English or Irish heritage.

The O'Eidin family can also be found as O'Heyne. They are found

as chiefs in Galway, centered in the barony of Kiltartan. One of their

castles can be found near Kinvara, known as Dun Guaire or Dungory

Castle in Galway…..

These O'Heynes, along with the O'Clerys and O'Shaughnessys held

the territory of Ui Fiachra in Galway, (the diocese of Kilmacdugh).

The O'Heynes, along with others were given as "old and respectable

families" in the county of Cork in Keatings'….(partial excerpt)

As expected O'Heyne is found in the 17th century in Clare and

Limerick. In 1890 we find "Hinds", Hynds, and Hynes as variant

spellings (The latter two were in Down and Roscommon).
