Snus is not new. It was first used in Sweden in the 19th century. Snus (pronounced "snoose") is a moist, steam cured tobacco product that comes in a loose form or in pouches, called portions. Snus is unique in that it is steam cured and not fire cured, which produces substantially fewer nitrosamines, the primary carcinogen found in smokeless tobacco. It is used by placing it under the upper lip for extended periods of time, and there is no need to spit. The nicotine is absorbed through the gums.
The "new" snus you are probably thinking of is Camel or Marlboro snus. These American versions are dry, white portions with less nicotine and more flavoring to make it more appealing to those new to snus.

∙ 2010-08-17 04:23:28Marlboro snus is a form of tobacco known as snus. It is smokefree and spitfree, and much safer than smoking cigarettes. However, it is not a very tasty brand of snus, and Camel Snus is a superior product in terms of nicotine content and taste.
Although camel Snus does have Tobacco in it, it just has a small bit
It has a very high dose of nicotine, which makes it very addictive. The first time you try it you will probably feel sick, even if you are used to nicotine, which makes it hard to pass the product in "should we allow this 'new' product"- tests. The world has no need for another tobacco product, although Snus hasn't been proven to be dangerous. Yet. first thing: snus has less nicotine. second thing: It's not new. it's just new to the U.S. And it still ain't that new. Snus is not illegal. I buy it all the time although I have to buy it online because the States will not carry the real stuff where I am at. It is illegal to sell snus in the EU (apart from Sweden and Norway) Snus is not illegal unless if you are under 18.
Snus (IPA: /snuːs/) is a moist powder tobacco product that is consumed by placing it under the upper lip for extended periods of time. It is a form of snuff that is used in a manner similar to American dipping tobacco, but typically does not result in the need for spitting. Snus is also unique in that it is steam-cured rather than fire-cured, is not fermented and contains no added sugar. Snus is manufactured and consumed primarily in Sweden and Norway, and is being test-marketed in several other countries. Please see related link.

cigarettes, cigars, chewing tobacco, dip, snus and nasal snuff.
Anyone using it as a cigarette, chew, or snus.
Swedes enjoy tobacco, but the most common usage of tobacco isn't smoking it (even though is very common to smoke), snusing it. You can find more info on snus over at wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snus
Most snus contains 8mg of nicotine per gram. A sachet of Scandinavian snus delivers the same amount of nicotine as one standard cigarette. American snus, on the other hand, has lower levels of nicotine.
