it varies based on the size of the cat. For example, I have 2 females: small 2 year old who is only 5 pounds, and an 11 month old, who is about 9 pounds, but a much longer and taller cat. To determine if your cat is at the proper weight, check out the body size charts, which have 5 cat body types, from emaciated to obese. The healthy cat should be #3 on there, which is right in the middle. You should be able to see a slight curve at the waist when looking down at her, the ribs are easily felt under a thin layer of fat, and her belly shouldn't hang too low when seen from the side.

There is no "magic" number I can give here. An average cat weighs between 9-11 pounds, however many fall over or above those numbers. A quick guide to see if your cat is overweight is to check it's ribs. You should be able to feel the cats ribs through their fur, but not see the outline of the ribs. Check with your family vet if you are concerned your cat my be over or underweight. Both can lead to serious and costly health problems.

An average cat weighs between 9-11 pounds, however different breeds have different weights. A rough gauge is to check your cat's ribs. If you cannot feel your cat's ribs, he is probably overweight. Check with your vet if you are unsure.

Because a tabby is the "mutt" of the cat world, a average weight and height can be hard to determine. Generally, a tabby will weight between eight and 15 pounds by the time it reaches its first birthday.

This depends on the cat's body shape and size as no two cats are the same. A good indicator of healthy weight is to run your hand over her ribs. You should be able to feel her ribs under a small layer of fat and skin. The cat should also have a slight waist.

A vet should be able to tell you whether your cat is a good weight or not.
