If my engine is hot, I would not even notice that as it evaporates very quickly...in hot oil.
The oil thins when hot and the oil pump is driven off the engine so, the lower the engine rpm's, the slower the pump turns.
the engine gets hot and while your engine is running your oil is going through your engine lubbing it. by the time the engine gets hot the oil is spread throughout the engine. if you have too much oil in the gauge will act weird because its hooked up to your oil to read its pressure. if it was youroil pump or switch it would do this when the engine was cold to. make sure the oil is at the correct level b4 spending money on a switch or pummp
The oil gets thinner. It is normal for the oil pressure to drop after the engine has reached full operating temperature. If you have from 30-40 psi pressure when the engine is hot then that is normal.
No, warn engine parts will cause loss of oil pressure as the engine warms up, due to expansion betweeen moving parts. Hot oil is thinner.
Have it checked by a mechanic, poor oil pressure is really dangerous for the engine. You might start with checking that you have the right oil level though.
That would be a 1970 Vw Beetle engine. It had dual oil pressure reliefs and single port heads. Not a bad engine for a baja IMO.
Using 5W-30 oil in summer, my Catera's low oil pressure warning and light will come on when the engine is hot. But with 10W-40 oil this condition will not occur. Oil pressure gauge may indicate low pressure, but not enough to trigger the warning or the light.
The oil pressure will depend on the condition of the engine. If you have 10 lbs at idle when engine is hot with this mileage, you are within specs. I would use 10W-30 oil. oil pressure of 10lbs and up is acceptable at hot idle. i like to use havoline 30wt oil. have never had a problem with it.
You need to have the oil pressure checked. It could be a worn engine or thin oil causing that.
On my 79 Fuel Injected Beetle the oil filter is a screen located underneath the engine.
Oil is not only a lubricant but it helps to remove heat from the engine. If you loose oil pressure the engine will not be lubricated properly and will begin to overheat. You have a serious problem and you will destroy the engine if you drive it with low oil pressure. Have this looked at by a professional. Do not start this engine until it has been repaired.
