In ancient times, swords, spears and daggers were already used. So I would choose the knife. If you count rock throwing as an attack or defense mechanism, then the oldest weapon would be a stone.

The US Army .45 automatic pistol, model 1911, was used by the US Army from 1911 until the 1980's. Some National Guard units were using it until the 1990's.

The M16 Jungle Rifle (as taught at Fort Ord California in 1969). The M16 has been officially part of the US Army since about 1963 (it was used for experimental/field testing purposes in South Vietnam in 1961/62) to the present 21st century.

Weapons kept in official government museums are considered to be in inventory. Good chance you'd find Kentucky rifles and Brown Bess muskets among those items, and perhaps weapons even older than that. As for active military usage, the Old Guard and US Army Exhibition Drill Team often drill with Springfield M1903 rifles, which are still in the arsenal. As far as actual operational usage on the front line, Marine Corps Special Operations units are still actively using the M1911 pistol, although these are typically pistols manufactured in the later years of that pistol's service span in the US Military, or even aftermarket pistols purchased in more recent times.
