I rebuilt my 231 (3800 series II, 3.8) chevy.
I checked the bearing clearances several times, and primed the engine before starting it the first time.
the current pressure I am seeing is about 70-80 cold and 45-60 at operating temperature.
if you are seeing anything lower than 30, it is likely time for a rebuild. the oil pumps on these engines are crank driven and there is no such thing (for these) as a high pressure pump.
The oil pressure switch on a 1997 Chevy Tahoe is located on the back of the engine. It is in the center-rear part of the engine.
The pressure will be high until the oil reaches full operating temperature.

The oil gets thinner. It is normal for the oil pressure to drop after the engine has reached full operating temperature. If you have from 30-40 psi pressure when the engine is hot then that is normal.
The oil pressure switch on a 1989 Chevy Camaro RS is located on the bottom of the engine hear the oil filter. It constantly monitors oil pressure and updates the computer on its status.
It is normal for the oil pressure to drop when the engine is warmed up and at an idle.
