Good question and it would help to know if you are referring to the inline 4.0 liter six cylinder engine or the V8's: 4.7, 5.2 or 5.8. So, not knowing which one you have I'll answer for all four engines.
On the 4.0 the spark plugs are numbered from the front of the engine back to the rear. So it goes 1,2,3,4,5,6 and the firing order is: 1,5,3,6,2,4
On all three of the V8s the spark plugs are numbered starting at the back of the engine on the passenger side and going from one side of the V-8 to the other. So, on the left bank of cylinders the plug numbers (back to front are: 1,3,5 & 7 and on the right (drivers side) of the motor the plugs are (back to front) 2,4,6 & 8 and the firing order for all three engines is 1,8,4,3,6,5,7,2.
I hope this answers your question. In the future please try to include as much pertinent info as possible in your question such as in: "Which is spark plug 5 on a 2000 5.8 liter grand Cherokee limited?". The details can sometimes be critical in providing you a short, sweet and correct answer which saves everyone time.
Good luck to you !!
