A router is primarily a layer 3 device that connects one network via a port to a switch on another port. Most home routers today come with an integrated switch (multiple ports). As such, a router would not contain a hub.

Some routers may also have built-in firewalls and VPN tunneling capabilities, including auditing and logging functionality. They may also contain DHCP and NAT capabilities which you typically won't find in a switch.

Do you need a hub as well as a router?

Using a Lan-5 computer to computer cable how do you transfer your files from one computer to the other?

You need either a crossover cable or a Router. Make a Peer to Peer network or make them both workgroup computers.>use a switch or a hub if you already have Router/modem. I suggest a router for future expansion. Hub is cheap than a switch but it perform low than the switch. Cabled work group on each computer you have is costly and the same time it performs like a Hub. Set an Internet Protocol (IP) since it is connected through the net.
