The cuticle is the waxy outer layer on some parts of a plant such as some leaves and new shoots. The purpose of the cuticle is to act as a protectant from outside elements as well as helping to retain moisture inside the plant.?æ

The cuticle, it is only produced by the epidermal (outer) cells of leaves, shoots and all other above ground parts of plants that don't have bark.
