In Georgia if you are cited for driving without insurance it is an offense for which you are required to make a court appearance. The GA Driver Department of Driver Services (DDS) notes that a conviction for driving without insurance comes with a 60/90-day suspension as a part of the penalties that can be handed down. Georgia Code 40-6-10 deals with those that drive without insurance and is titled Insurance requirements for operation of motor vehicles generally. This section of GA law states that any person who fails to comply with the Georgia insurance requirements for operation of motor vehicles shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction thereof, shall be subject to a fine of not less than $200.00 nor more than $1,000.00 or imprisonment for not more than 12 months, or both. Subsection (7) of the GA Code mentioned above notes however that if the person receiving a citation under this law shows to the court having jurisdiction of the case that required minimum insurance coverage was in effect at the time the citation was issued, the court may impose a fine not to exceed $25.00. The court shall not in this case forward a record of the disposition of the case to the department and the driver's license of such person shall not be suspended. So there is a big reduction if you can show that you had car insurance at the time of receiving the ticket, just that you had no proof on you or that it was in their database incorrectly that you were uninsured. However there is no mention of a reduction of the penalties if you obtain insurance after the ticket was issued but before the court date. If you were cited for driving without insurance or no proof of auto insurance in Georgia and were uninsured but want to see if you can help your case by obtaining the required car insurance coverages before the court date, contact the court listed on your ticket to find out this could help your case and assigned penalties or not. Refer to your State Insurance Regulations or ask your Insurance Agent. Insurance is regulated by each of the 50 states and the penalties will vary depending on where you live. Generally the first time or anytime penalty for driving without insurance is a hefty fine and drivers license suspension.
Yes, carrying auto insurance is mandatory in all states, including Georgia. Driving without insurance can result in fines and/or jail time.
I could be wrong, but im pretty sure its not illegal to be without car insurance in the state of Florida.
I am not sure about California itself but of the states I do no about the penalty is always more than six months of insurance would have cost the person had they purchased the liability insurance.
The penalty for driving without insurance in Washington State starts at $250. However, if there are other infractions at the same time, the fine has the potential to become astronomical. I have seen them as much as $1000. So... even if it's just liability, carry insurance!
Well i got a ticket about a month ago for driving without automobile insurance in Georgia (and it wasn't my car by the way....wont make that mistake again) and the officer gave me a ticket for $515 dollars...
I'm pretty sure it's the death penalty in the Okie State. Just Kidding. But really driving without insurance generally costs you more than the insurance would have cost you. Different jurisdictions set their own fines so it will be different in each County, City, and Town.
More than like each County and even City will set their own fines for traffic offenses such as this. In most states the fine for driving without insurance is usually higher that the cost of purchasing the insurance in the first place.
If you are driving the car, then you are officially liable for driving without proof of insurance, but most police will be understanding if you are driving a company car that you didn't know was insured.
I'm not sure, but driving without insurance is STUPID, and DANGEROUS!
If the car you are driving is insured then you are not driving without insurance.
