I'm definitely no mechanic but, i have a 1979 ford f100 with the original 302 in it and it doesn't have points.
According to one of Fords websites : For a 1968 Ford Mustang 5.0 liter / 302 cubic inch V8 engine : ( the spark plugs are gapped at .035 inch )

According to the Chilton's Collector's Edition 1972-1979 Auto Repair Manual, the 302 is a 1972 motor and the point gap is .017. The point dwell is 26-30 degrees.
Let me know the type of heads you are putting on the 302 and if they are 2V or 4V heads and if possible what type of vehicle was this 302 originally in. Spark plug gap for my 2V truck is .044
The gap on the plugs is .034.
