The IRA and the Loyalist called a cease fire a few years back.. not that this ever really worked. Northern Ireland will never be at peace until they are a unified nation with the republic. you can get alot of info on different websites like... patsbookmarks this will lead you to numeous links.. some anti brit, some pro.. so you can read up on both sides. the current situation is still pretty bad, there are still killings, bombings, punishment beating, unfair treatment towards catholics by the unionist governments. despite all the talks in the past 10 years nothing has changed and nothing is going to change, even if we catholics get british rule out and are joined with the republic, the violence wont stop. it deosn't matter how many politicans there are working on peace, what matters is how the people feel towards each other, andthe fact is most protestants and catholics still harbour deep sectarian feelings, although not all like to admit it.

since 2007, the political situation in Northern Ireland has been changed. Ian Paisley, a controverse, anti-catholic priest (he´s a protestant) is president of Northern Ireland. Together with Mc Guinnes, an IRA leader he´s in the gouvernement. It´s surprising that a Protestant and a Catholic are together in one gouvernement if you remember the situation before, when Protestants discriminate against Catholics in Northern Ireland.

Michael Collins was a revolutionary and a political leader. He signed a treaty that led to the setting up of Northern Ireland and also a civil war in Ireland. These actions had an influence in shaping Ireland today, so he is a very important figure in Irish history. There is far more that could be said about him as there are other significant things about him. You should watch the movie Michael Collins. While it is not totally accurate it does give a good idea of what he was like and his significance.
