well the poverty rate is high and about 23.7% of Australian families suffer from poverty. poverty is simply related to the lack of the basic needs eg. water, food, clothing, bathing and your financial status, but here in Australia families are simply compared to other families money status which also connects with the poverty line. this line shows the minimum level of low income.

In Australia If you have no work or you are in a position where your health prevents you from earning a living. you are still entitled to an income provided by the state. add this to the help that can be gained from the various charity's, generally even though you are poor you can still lead a no frills existence. compare this to country's where poverty means that you are completely dependant on what you yourself can scrape together, poverty in Australia would still be looked upon as wealth by poor people of many places in the world. A poor person can eat or drink themselves to death in Australia if they chose too. The biggest problem with poverty in Australia is that the system these days is designed to encourage an underclass as a result of reduced educational services to those that are less well heeled.
