The Constitution begins with a short statement called the Preamble. The Preamble states that the government of the United States was established by the people. "We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union, establish justice, insure domstic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our postperity do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

This is the preamble:
We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
Random fact: At the time it was written, the most controversial line of the preamble was "We the people" because anti-federalists were afraid that it gave to much power to the government and took power away from the states.
