$3.44 gallon and national average is $2.44 Heritage Propane is ripping me off. Pinellas County
From Heritage Propane we asked for an itemized bill for the year. They had replaced some propane that had leaked out, on the bill it was listed as "Residential Bulk" and came to 42 gallons for 83.58 or $1.99 per gallon (1/23/2012) which they reimbursed us for. On the same date there is another "Residential Bulk" charge for 19.6 gallons at $39.00 or $1.99 per gallon. The next time our tank was topped off (3/19/2012) we got 41.3 gallons for $190.66 or $4.61 per gallon, a difference of $2.62 per gallon. We are in the process of trying to find out why there is a discrepancy. I don't think that the price of propane has inflated that much in two months, and a mark-up of $2.62/gallon (226% of the "bulk" price) seems excessive to me.
In short, according to the last bill we received from Heritage Propane (Tampa, FL) on 3/19/2012, the price per gallon is $4.61/gallon (41.3 gallons for 190.66...not including the Trans Fuel Charge of $5.00, and "Regulatory Compliance" of $9.96).
As per the Energy Information Administration, the cost of propane per gallon for the week of December 1st 2008 is 3.362.

Getting this info is nearly impossible in Utah. The state doesn't give a damn, and sites where you can supposedly find the info don't have any useful information either. For a state that supposedly caters to tourists it's a disgrace.

We just purchased 100 gallons in Bryan, Texas at $2.90/gallon. This seems high, since I thought propane would cost less than auto fuel per gallon.
Propane weighs 4.4 lbs per gallon, so 20 lbs of propane 4.54 gallons.
Type your answer here... there are around 91,600 BTUs in a gallon of propane. The standard BBQ sized bottle of propane contains 11 pounds of propane. Propane weighs about 4.2 pounds per gallon, so that 11 pounds of propane is about 2.5 gallons in its liquid state. That means there is 91,600 BTUs/Gal times 2.5 gallons so a BBQ sized tank of propane contains about 2.3 million BTUs. If your BBQ has a 50,000 BTU burner, on high heat, it will last a bit over 4 and half hours of run time.

According to the Wikipedia entry for propane, liquid propane has thermal energy 91,600 BTU per gallon. So 1 therm which is 100,000 BTU will correspond to 100,000/91,600 gallons, result = 1.092 gallons.

That would depend on it`s size or input rating. You can get the input rating off the unit nameplate and divide that # by 2500 and that will tell you how many cubic feet of propane vapor the furnace burns per hour. If you buy propane by the gallon ask your supplier how many cubic feet of vapor a gallon of liquid propane yields and you can figure your answer.
