Effective December 6, 2012, the state law about marriage and marital dissolution also applies to domestic partnerships registered with Washington state (but not with those registered with individual cities in the state).
Therefore, the process is identical to that for ending a marriage: divorce proceedings in court.
Both partners may file a termination certificate with the City Clerk. Alternatively, one partner may file a termination certificate with the City Clerk, then notify the other partner.
Either person in a domestic partnership may initiate termination of the domestic partnership. See Paragraph 186.05 at the related links for details.
One partner files a notice of termination of domestic partnership at the County Clerk's office and pays the applicable fee. He or she then notifies the other partner.
