it is a gas

body heat causes the molecules to separate converting liquid to vapor. the molecules then diffuse randomly. eventually some molecules encounter receptors in a person's nose, which trigger nerves that send electrochemical pulses to the brain.

When you open a bottle of perfume why can you smell it from the other side of the room?

everything is made up of particles- the air, and every gas, liquid and solid there is. that includes your perfume and the air around it. the particles in gas are very spread out, allowing more particles from elsewhere to diffuse around them, and possible mix with them. As perfume is sprayed, the particles will turn into a gas, colliding and mixing with the air particles. As the particles in gas are far apart from each other the particles from the perfume are allowed though the particles, spreading out (diffusing) all over the room. The particles are obviously scented, so that's that. Hope that makes sense...

What is the reason why there is a colorful sunset and sunrise?

The air particles in the air mix with the light, causing it to be colorful

What happens when the air and the blood mixes?

Air and blood in a medical setting, such as dialysis are not supposed to mix. When blood and air mix, the clotting process begins to occur.

Why need high temperature in diffusion process?

probably because the particles move faster when they have more energy. If the particles are moving faster then they will mix (diffuse) faster.

Is there a way to filter oxygen out from the air?

Yes, you can press air trough a nanofilter and press the smaller molecules out of the air mix leaving the heavyer particles behind.

What do you call the process when particles in a gas spread out and mix with other particles?

Diffusion. It also occurs in liquids, by the way.

How can you smell air freshener in a room if it is sprayed in a corner?

Scent is normally based on a fragrance in a spirit type of liquid. The spirit starts to evaperaste in to the surrounding air as molecules and dissipates in the air molecules as they move about the space that encounter

Why After a dust storm how does rain helps in cleaning the air?

The water droplets will mix with the dust particles and bring the dust to earth, leaving the air less dusty.

How does diffusion work using the particle theory?

Diffusion is the movement of particles from a high concentration to a lower concentration. Using particle theory, imagine that you have a substance i.e perfume. When you spray the perfume at first it is quite strong in one area but weaker in the other area. This is because the particles of the perfume want to spread out to form an equilibruim. So the particles move away from each other so there is a 50/50 ratio of perfum on either side of the room.

How does the sun actually product energy?

hydrogen particles mix with helium particles

Why is a fruit salad a heterogeneous?

Its a heterogeneous mix because the particles of the salad are not blended completely together. A homogeneous mix is when the particles are mixed so finely that you cannot see the individual particles.
