This may be able to be answered on the LASG website(Latex Allergy Support Group).
One reason is that some people have an allergy to latex.
A sensitivity or allergy to latex is not uncommon. While prolonged exposure is usually required to cause irritation, some patients are highly sensitive and can have no contact with latex. Further, medical personnel generally wear a stethoscope around the neck for many hours of the day. Anyone with a latex allergy would want to use a latex-free stethoscope.

yes! some people are only allergic to rubber (elastic, latex, spandex) which has been bleached or treated with rubber accelerators. Other people are allergic to latex, spandex, tires, pencil erasers, tennis balls, condoms, hairbrushes. They put rubber everywhere! Take it from me, I have a TRUE latex allergy. with a true latex allergy, an exposure leads to at least three weeks of contact dermatitis. For someone with this allergy, that includes spandex in jeans (which is bad because it is treated with lots of the rubber accelerator which is sometimes the real allergy)

If you have an allergy to rubber (latex) you may want to avoid a lot of skin contact - it's a rubber-based adhesive. regular duct tape is NOT latex free
Can be a reaction to spermicide or latex in condoms.
